For a lot of people, following Cassandra wasn't a choice. It was survival. Very few of us had the balls to go against her, and almost everyone who did wound up dead. There weren't a lot of us left by the end. We didn't make a very compelling case as an alternative. He worked for her, but I get the feeling he didn't like it very much.
[ He's gonna ask about this Cassandra later when he's not typing on a goddamn three inch keyboard.
Anyway, there's always a choice, good ones or no. Maybe he's not surprised, either, to hear what Laura picked, against the odds and probably best judgment, and it leaves him feeling something he's not gonna examine too deeply right now. (It's not a bad feeling.) ]
You made one.
[ But he's not exactly refuting what she's said. John was just a kid for the time Logan knew him, and he's got his suspicions Charles had his regrets there. When he says follow, he means just that: Pyro drifted after Magneto like a lost fuckin' puppy; Logan's misgivings about Erik aside, he'd be lying if he said he can't see why it played out how it did. ]
He didn't make it in my time. Might be nice if he lands right side up for once.
( She's not going to spend too long squinting down at that first bit, trying to unpack it. It's probably not that big of a deal. It's fine. She doesn't need to know whether or not there's approval written in three entire words. )
Yeah, well, he's still a huge fucking asshole so I guess we'll see.
( Which is to say, he was... fine. Mostly. When he had no direct orders to move against her, he didn't. They had a few terse but decidedly neutral run-ins over her time there. Scavenging the same place, passing on the road. It was a lot of silence, a lot of tension, a lot of deliberately walking around each other. That's the only reason she gives him the benefit of the doubt — there were plenty of opportunities where he could've been worse, but he wasn't.
But he was still a follower of Cassandra, and he still had a little too much fun roasting shit. Bad attitude, bad teeth. Now, he's got access to other options and better dental care, so... however he turns out is on him now, and not his circumstances. )
[ She can't see him huff a little at that, but he does. ]
Well, if he's asking for it, you sure as hell don't need my permission to kick his ass.
[ Something tells him how the timelines work, she's got a more accurate picture of the kid at this point. Still, if Erik can behave, who the hell knows. Shifting alliances are nothing new when they've got bigger fish to fry, and the way the world moves against them, that's usually how it plays out.
( There's something about that... something she can't quite put her finger on. Something she can't quite articulate.
It's not bad, though. )
Remy. Some people call him Gambit. Kind of felt like an older brother to me sometimes. He deserved to make it out of that place, too. So did the others. Feels like I left them behind.

Was anyone else with him?

You expecting someone else with him?

But there are also some really, really fucking bad people there. Dangerous people. People he knew.

[ Not quite the friendly face she was looking for then, huh? ]
People he knew or people he was with?
no subject
A little of both, I think.

Had a habit of following dangerous people.

Anyone in particular you were thinking of?

Remy. Some people call him Gambit.

Doesn't make it true.
[ Anyway. Slightly delayed: ]
I'll keep an eye out.

( For both sentiments. )
