[ 'Lo and behold, Friday arrives. With it, a trip to one of the larger, brighter thrift emporiums in Panorama. It's a mess, of course — items of clothing tossed onto barely organised racks with little to no labeling, dishware that was once set up in a spectrum of colour coordination now fighting for shelf space wherever it can be found, and an entire back wall of broken down electronics and toys.
It's an adventure in patience as much as it is a shopping trip, but the items are cheap, and Kimiko goes through way too many jackets to be dropping 50JL every time.
She keeps getting distracted, though.
For the fourth time in half an hour, she waves Laura over and then holds a hanger holding an item under her chin. A tilt of her head, gauging the pattern with Laura's general colour profile.
Over the hanger, she signs — ] Maybe pile?
[ There might not even be a maybe pile. There might just be Kimiko handing Laura stuff to try on and Laura putting them right back on the rack. ]
( Kimiko isn't the only one consistently getting distracted. As with all good thrift stores, the entire perimeter of the place is laden with shelves of useless knickknacks and tchotchkes of all variety — Laura's personal weakness. She keeps veering off when something stupid and pointless catches her attention, then wandering back to the racks again.
Now, they have an exchange that looks like this:
Kimiko holds up the jacket. Laura studies it thoughtfully with a tilt of her head, and after a moment of consideration, shakes it. In turn, Laura holds up a Lucky Cat figurine, and flicks the arm. The arm begins to wave. Maybe pile? )
action!
