🦋 IC Information

Character Name: Laura Howlett
Age: Roughly 12 (the Transigen file printed months before her escape had her described as roughly 132 months; a significant but unspecified amount of time passed since that print-off and her appearance at the beginning of Logan, & I'll be taking her from post-canon!)
Canon: X-MCU
Canon Point: Post Logan movie, pre Deadpool & Wolverine
Character History: Here or Here!
Canon Abilities:
  • Retractable Adamantium Claws: X-23 has two retractable indestructible adamantium claws in both of her hands, and one in each foot. Her hand claws extend between her finger's knuckles and the foot claws emerge above the base of her toes. Xavier accredits this to her gender, akin to how the lioness is the superior hunter of the feline breed.
  • Accelerated Healing Factor: X-23's metabolism allows her to heal much faster, more extensively, and efficiently than normal humans and other mutants. She was able to quickly recover from being shot with a harpoon through the chest and could continue to function without any hinderances.
  • Superhuman Immunity: Due to X-23's accelerated healing factor; she is immune or resistant to most types of diseases, illnesses, sickness, drugs, poisons, toxins, radiation, disorders, disabilities, etc.
  • Superhuman Longevity: Due to X-23's accelerated healing factor her aging will slow and eventually stop once she reaches adulthood.
  • Enhanced Strength: Laura's strength is higher than that of most humans, enough to overpower adults far larger than herself with ease. Combined with her acrobatic ability, she was able was to defeat several Reavers, even when one of them had managed to pin her down with a cybernetic hand. Later on she was able to flipped a store clerk over her head and onto the floor with one hand, before Logan stopped her from killing him. She was able to effortlessly overpower dozens of highly trained Reavers whom are all large men. She possesses low levels of superhuman strength, but far greater than that of Olympic weightlifters.
  • Enhanced Durability: X-23 is far more durable than any human being. She has survived massive trauma and has been able to endure significant psychic strain without any long term or significant hindrances. She has received gunshots, stab wounds, even a shot through the chest with a harpoon gun without showing signs of pain.
  • Enhanced Speed: X-23 has vast levels of speed, she is able to run as fast as an accelerating vehicle, and can move and run at high velocities.
  • Enhanced Agility: X-23 possesses a vast and extraordinary amount of flexibility, coordination, balance, and agility. She can move, flip, and jump at tremendous speeds with ease, and she is able to perform gymnastic maneuvers, such as flips and springs, with little to no difficulty, in order to overwhelm her opponents. She is potentially faster than her father because she never had her entire skeleton infused with adamantium; only her claws. Her tremendous resilience also seems to have no hindrance on her athletic prowess and mobility.
  • Enhanced Stamina: Like her father, X-23 has immense levels of stamina, she is able to run and fight for very long periods of time without showing any signs of exhaustion. She can survive and function without much food, water, oxygen, rest, or sleep far longer than a human.
  • Enhanced Reflexes: X-23 has incredible reflexes and reactions, she can duck, dodge and weave anything thrown or shot at her at tremendous speeds. She can even dodge bullets.
  • Superhuman Senses: Like her father, X-23 has very powerful senses, far greater senses than that of a human, her smelling, tasting, hearing, and vision is far greater than that of a humans, and she can see, smell, and hear things, people, and scents miles away. She can easily sense danger, and smell if someone or something is hiding nearby. Her senses is even stronger than that of an animal's.

  • Inventory:
  • the clothes on her back
  • one backpack, containing:
  • a music player & headphones
  • a small handful of (in-canon) x-men comics
  • one handgun, five bullets
  • a pair of sunglasses
  • basic hygiene supplies

  • 🦋 Personality

Option 1: Answer the following questions. Elaborate on the answer, especially your characters thoughts and feelings surrounding the answer. For Canon Characters, you can choose four questions. For Original Characters, you will need to choose six questions. Keep the word count to 150-400 per question.

    1. Has your character always believed in magic? Do they have something influencing their perspective on the supernatural/metaphysical/spiritual from their past? How do they feel about magic?

    2. Magic, in a sense, does have a place in Laura's universe. It's more commonly understood as being a mutation — although, there are beings out there who aren't technically mutants that can do such things. We try not to squint too hard about it, the cinematic universes sure do be marvelous. The more important reason I picked this question, though, is that Laura comes from a time when supernatural folk such as herself have been in a steady decline for decades. She is one of only a handful of mutants left in the world, grown in a lab with a dozen other children that are some of the very last in North America. Although she is not yet of the mutants-versus-humans mentality, she will have an instinctive higher trust for people who share other non-human characteristics. Growing up as a captive in a lab with other captives breeds an innate us-versus-them mentality, and in the absence of a lab, the us is other mutants, other super-humans. The them in a life after Transigen has not yet been settled in her young mind, and it's very open to influence at her age.

    3. If your character could ask for one wish, and it's going to be magically granted without any consequence, what will it be and why?

    4. This would be a prime opportunity to wish for something selfless, like 'freedom and equality for all mutants', but the truth is that despite the unnatural maturity that comes with her upbringing, many aspects of Laura are still very young. She hasn't had as much life experience as needed for wisdom or full selflessness (though she does display it on behalf of her friends), and so her wish would likely revolve around Logan. So recently after her father's death, it's most likely she would simply wish him to be alive again — and if, in the process of that, she could package in some kind of amendment about him learning to like (or even love) her, she probably would. Though she didn't know him personally for very long, she had plenty of time with those comic books to build up a fantasy in her mind, to create an imaginary father figure out of colorful pages and superimpose them on the initially disappointing reality of Wolverine — and there was just enough overlap at the end, he was just good enough, that he wound up striking a chord in her. Enough, at least, to call him daddy in the end. She would want an opportunity to know him as a father for real.

    5. If there's one person your character would follow to another realm, who would it be and why? If there's no one, state that and explain why.

    6. In an effort to keep all of these answers from being just about Logan (arguably the most impactful person in her life, for obvious reasons), I'll go with the second runner-up: Charles Xavier. Laura liked him almost instantly, which isn't just because Charles tends to have that effect on people. It was his kindness, an unprecedented and novel thing that she had only experienced minimally at that point in her life, and primarily it had been by Gabriela, the nurse-slash-mother figure that saved her. Charles was the first man, the first person from outside of the facility, to be truly kind and familial to her. He had a grandfatherly energy to him, a wisdom, a patience. He taught her a lot in the few days she got to know him, and the effort he put into communicating with her before she was ready to talk was appreciated deeply. She trusted him very early on, and if he'd lived longer or she'd met him when he was a little younger, given very little time she'd have likely been a devout Xavier loyalist.

    7. What is your character's most outstanding personality trait, and why?

    8. We're made to believe that it should be rage. After all, the X23 program was an experiment that largely revolved around the concept — they were trying to manufacture rage, they were trying to create children predisposed to it, who knew nothing but it. And at first glance, Laura does seem to have it in spades — it's far easier for her to be angry, far easier for her to channel other emotions like sadness or confusion into anger, but the thing is: the X23 program was a failure. They couldn't breed enough rage in the kids to make them want to kill, and rage is not Laura's deepest trait. Harder to spot, but far more motivating for her, is loyalty. She commits fiercely to the people she cares about — her friends, primarily, the other children from the lab, to the point that she was willing to go feral on Logan just to get to them again. But that loyalty is relatively easy to inspire coming from other people, too. She latched on to Charles very quickly, and willingly killed soldiers for him, held his hand, did not judge him or find any rage to level at him for his seizures. She latched onto Logan, ultimately shedding her mask and her anger to weep for him. She's a girl who has had very little in her life except for her connections with a select few other people, and the constant fear of losing them — cementing herself to them and taking up the charge to keep them safe is a far truer reflection of her than rage.
